ROADBURN 2014: YOB, CROWBAR, WINDHAND, CONAN, SOURVEIN, INTER ARMA AND SO MUCH MORE!

Amazing announcements in the last 24 hours from the Roadburn Festival: YOB to play two shows, one of them being 'The Great Cessation" album in its entirety. AND! The riff lord joins the lineup with CROWBAR being announced. Stunning additions to what was already a special list of bands. Amazing art in the range of Roadburn posters too I have to say, makes me want to wallpaper the house with them all! Also on the bill are WINDHAND, SOURVEIN, INTER ARMA and the destructive riff force of CONAN.

Mike from YOB had the following to say in relation to the announcement “Coming back to Roadburn for a third time….to play our fifth and sixth sets total at this festival…. it is difficult to come up with words to adequately express our feelings. We have made it very clear how much we love the spirit of the Roadburn Festival. It is an unparallelled experience encompassing everything we embrace as both artists and fans. We will bring what we hope to be the best we have ever done in both of our sets of music. Playing The Great Cessation live in entirety will be a YOB first. For our second set, we will perform songs covering our entire discography, including something new as well. To be able to play, to be in attendance as fans, and to once again walk the streets of Tilburg and live in the soul that is Roadburn is something we are very grateful for. April 2014 is too far away.” (quote courtesy of www.roadburn.com)

Here is the full list of bands playing Roadburn 2014 (apologies if I have left any out!):

Bandcamp Riffage: Halo of Snakes, Witch Fight, Arrowhead, Trippy Wicked, Blood Red Water

Here's a wrap up of the most recent HoD Radio finds on Bandcamp for your listening pleasure....Keep an eye on the Hand of Doom Bandcamp collection page also.

HALO OF SNAKES (Philadelphia, USA) bring us some hyped up stoner/punk riffs that seem to be specifically constructed to make your car exceed speed limits... This rips from start to finish - good time riffs.

WITCH FIGHT (Sydney, Australia) are a two piece feed of stoner sludge destruction, with a dash of hectic punk (moreso in the vocal dept) for good measure. They released their 'Big Wheel Demos' in June 2012, and are currently getting material together for a followup release. The video below was filmed at a recent gig at the Annandale Hotel, and the track "Gas House Gorilla" is one of the tunes that will be on the upcoming album.

ARROWHEAD (Sydney, Australia) are pure stoner rock, driven by equal elements of Kyuss, Fu Manchu, Brant Bjork & The Bros, and all done with their own spin. Great riffs, driving rhythms, that fluid Scott Reeder style bass, and cool vocals. Arrowhead's excellent album 'Atomsmasher' was released on Von Grimm Records, and they will be supporting KADAVAR and BLUES PILLS on Saturday Nov 30 (FB event page here)

TRIPPY WICKED & THE COSMIC CHILDREN OF THE KNIGHT (St Albans/Knebworth, UK). Yep I just shouted one of the longest band names going. That or my caps lock was stuck... Trippy Wicked have just released their new album "Underground" this week and it is a low end riff fest of the highest order. Standout track on first listen at HoD Radio was "New Beginnings", a heavy lumbering beast. This album is consistently great throughout and hopefully will see Trippy Wicked getting wider recognition.

BLOOD RED WATER (Venizia, Italy) have just this week released their new album "All the Ills of Mankind". The followup to their 2012 release "Tales of Addiction and Despair", this is even better again and is full of EHG sludge goodness. Recommended listening!

Impending Heaviness: LVMBAR , Yob Catharsis reissue, DIRTCLODFIGHT

Aaron Edge, Mike Scheidt, & Tad Doyle  have announced what they describe as a 'crushing sonic endeavour'  in the form of LUMBAR. They got together at various points between May and July at Witch Ape Studio to put together the debut release, 'The First and Last Days of Unwelcome", which is due out this November on Southern Lord records, for whom Aaron was the Art Director for a number of years. Check out Aarons' blog over at http://aaronedgedesign.blogspot.com.au/ for examples of some of the work he has done with Yob, Poison Idea, Eagle Twin, and High on Fire amongst many others.

Aaron is also a driving force behind the #FurtherFasterForever community, a source of inspiration and encouragement in the health & fitness realms

Being mastered by Brad Boatright at Audiosiege, this is sure to have a monumentally heavy sound. His recent work with the Sleep "Dopesmoker" , High on Fire "Art of Self Defence"and the NAILS album has been superb. There are no clips/previews of LVMBAR available as yet, but keep your eyes & ears on their Facebook page for updates.

Mike, Tad & Aaron have collectively been involved in the following bands: Yob, Middian, Brothers of the Sonic Cloth, TAD, H.C Minds, Vhol, Rote Hexe, Roareth, Blood Buddies, Bundle of Hiss, H-Hour, Harkonnen, Iamthehorn, Grievous, Mike & Tad guesting on the upcoming Dirtclodfight album, and many more I'm sure.

Hand selected riffs: CLAGG unleash a preview track, new album release date 3 October 2013!

Melbourne, Australia's masters of all things gravitationally crushing, CLAGG, have announced today that their fourth studio album 'Gather Your Beasts' will be officially released on October 3. The release coincides with Clagg's tour with Church of Misery on the exceptional DOOMSDAY FESTIVAL which sees shows in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne from Oct 3 to 5.

Check out the track "The Great Mortality", taken from the upcoming Clagg album.

This will be one of the heaviest releases this year - I put Clagg right up there with bands like Crowbar and Bolt Thrower in terms of that rock solid guaranteed gut feel you have where you just know that whatever they put out is going to destroy, and never disappoint. All three Clagg albums to date, Let The Galaxy Burn (2005), Where Dead Gods Sleep (2007) and Lord of the Deep (2009) have been sensational, each one somehow managing to top the last. Here's to knowing that "Gather Your Beasts" is going to be the heavy riff fix required to see the year out.
